 Japanese Cave in Klungkung

Bali is not only famous with Kuta Beach and Mount Agung. Historical attractions also become something interest to visit.

Across the border of Gianyar and Klungkung , will be marked by a large statue of an elephant with a deer on it . But there are interesting in this border, a row of caves in the sights of the region.

Local people called it a Japanese Caves. It called so because is supposedly used as a hiding place for Japanese troops during World War 2 . The height of caves was not so high. There are 16 caves with the height no more than 170 cm . Commonly this height was the size of the Japanese troops who hide in this caves.

Japanese cave become a silent witness to the history of colonization that occurred in the past . But unfortunately not enough information boards posted at the entrance of this historical site. Sixteen caves are connected to each other . The depth of the cave was not so deep. The first cave is located in the north, while the last cave is located in the south side which is marked by a house where a sculptor and painter Sabda Alam, Made Sukanta Wahyu put his sculpture carvings.
This lack of information makes the tourists do not appear to look down this cave. Moreover billboards candidates appear to cover the existence of this cave from the road. Lack of government attention to the historical sites makes even less attractive to visit by tourists. At least, this site become a silent witness history in Bali.

Only old local people looked around this area. They look clean the bottom of the cave and put firewood from the forest in the cave. Natural shades are very visible in this cave area. Tukad Bubuh and large elephant statue with deer on it becomes a marker where the caves are located. Which is on the right side of the road towards the town of Gianyar .
